There's something in the wind in a sleepy hamlet where Liz Hurley has a home - and it smells bad.

Developers want to enlarge a compost plant just a few kilometres from the actress and model's £2.5million Cotswolds farmhouse.

Titanic star Kate Winslet, TV presenter Anne Robinson and model Kate Moss also have homes nearby.

The site already produces compost used in mushroom growing and has attracted criticism from locals due to the foul smell. But the application, to be heard tomorrow, is to enlarge the site near Ampney Crucis, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, so it

can handle thousands of tonnes of kitchen scraps which will be recycled into compost.

There is also a piggery near the site and there are fears that some waste material could get into the animals' food supply.

Paul Lilly, vice-chairman of nearby Quenington parish council, said: 'All the villages around here are small and quaint, that's why people come to visit the area. The last thing we want is thousands of heavy trucks going through the tiny rural roads here - it would not be safe.'
