Pop Idol judge Neil Fox is leaving radio station Capital FM after 18 years to be replaced by Richard Bacon.

Former Blue Peter presenter Bacon will take over Fox's drivetime show from May.
Fox, who has presented the drivetime slot for eight years, said he intends to
concentrate on TV projects.

He said: "I have been and always will be a radio man but I've got a lot of ITV shows coming up and I've learned you just can't do it all.

"I'm chuffed for Richard, he's a great broadcaster."

Joining the London station will reunite Bacon with his Big Breakfast co-host Johnny Vaughan, who presents the breakfast show.

"This is a great opportunity to do one of the main shows on a massive station. I can't wait to get stuck in and make the show my own and of course to be reunited with Johnny Vaughan who was a bit of a mentor to me on the Big Breakfast," he said.

Bacon, 29, started out on local radio in Nottingham before joining Blue Peter in 1997.

His time on the children's show came to an abrupt end the following year when he was caught snorting cocaine.

After a brief spell out of the limelight he returned as a roving reporter on the Big Breakfast and has presented Top of the Pops and Five's Back To
Reality, plus a radio show for XfM.
