DJ Fatboy Slim has scuppered David Cameron's attempts to look hip, by refusing the Tories permission to use one of his records at their party conference this week.

Record bosses passed on a request to the DJ, real name Norman Cook, to use his Happiness record but the answer was a definite no.

The track was recorded in 1995, released under the name Pizzaman, and has received a revival by featuring in the soundtrack for hit film You, Me and Dupree.

Norman Cook made it clear he did not want to be associated in any way with the Conservative party or want their money.

The left-wing DJ was furious when Labour used his Right Here Right Now as their election tune in 2004.

He ranted: "At least the Conservatives had the decency to ask first, unlike Labour."

"The Tories however, remain my least favourite political party - so an emphatic No is the answer."

"Is Happiness going to be the new direction for the Conservatives? We'll have to wait and see."

Despite Norman's refusal, the party could still use the track.

As long as the venue has a license and a royalty is paid to the Performing Rights Society, anyone is free to play what they like in public.

It would seem that Brighton-based DJ Fatboy Slim is a favourite with the politicians.

His Praise You single was used, without his permission, by Al Gore in his failed US presidential campaign in 1999.
