Cheryl Cole's first solo single has been accused of sounding like an old song from R 'n' B star Kelis.

Star turn: Cheryl singing on X Factor

The Girls Aloud singer's record Fight For This Love looks set to be No 1 on Sunday as it is the year's biggest-selling hit so far.

But internet music fans say the melody of the song's verse is almost identical to the 2007 Top 3 hit Lil Star, by American-born Kelis.

One, calling herself Ali1998, wrote: "It was the first thing I thought of when I heard it and ran off to play Lil Star immediately to everyone in the room.

"My daughter exclaimed, it's exactly the same!' I wonder if she realises this or it's subliminal."

Another, Chief Wahoo, said: "I had no idea that it was even Cheryl Cole. But Lil Star by Kelis just kept going through my head."

An anonymous poster added: "Pretty much the entire song is a re-sampled version of Lil Star, just with new lyrics and a dancey break."

Cheryl's spokesman today defended the accusations, saying: "There are no similarities."
Fight For This Love is the first single from her album 3 Words, out on Monday.

It was written by American Andre Merritt, who has previously worked with Rihanna. More than 15m viewers watched Cheryl performing the song on
The X Factor last Sunday.
