Cheryl Cole "has her heart set on America" and is planning a fresh start there.

The singer and reality TV judge is reportedly looking to base herself in the US following her divorce from football star Ashley Cole.

Friends say Cheryl will quit her position as a judge on The X Factor to go to the homeland of her rumoured boyfriend, dancer Derek Hough, and that she's secretly been offered a deal to appear on a US version of the show, planned for next year.

A source told the News Of The World: "This is Cheryl Cole phase two. She's not changing her name, but she's changing every other aspect of her life.

"She wouldn't have the time to do both of The X Factor shows, and release new songs, and she's got her heart set on America where Derek lives."

Cheryl flew back to the UK from Los Angeles on the weekend, where she has been comforted by Derek while she recovers from malaria, which she contracted in July after a trip to Africa.

Cheryl will stay in the country until December so she can appear on The X Factor, and will also reportedly sell her marital home and buy a smaller house in London.

The source added: "Cheryl wants a base in London, but the idea is she'll spend less and less time in England."
