Zayn Malik has suffered defeat in the album chart at the hands of former choirboy Aled Jones.

Jones – who found fame with hit single Walking In The Air – has entered the charts with One Voice.

Malik, 23, topped last week’s chart with his debut solo album Mind of Mine – but has failed to secure the position.

The former One Direction singer has dropped to number 12 while Jones is sitting at number six.

Speaking about the positioning a source told The Sun: “The album was meant to arrive with huge fanfare. Being beaten by the likes of Aled isn’t what he or his team imagined.”

The defeat comes days after Malik became the first ever UK male artist to debut at the top of the UK and US album charts.

Speaking out about his record-breaking chart success he took to Twitter writing: “Blessed, honoured and thankful.”

The Last Shadow Puppets took number one with their album Everything You've Come To Expect.
