Wes Nelson’s followers are convinced that the Dancing on Ice hopeful has moved on from ex Megan Barton Hanson with his skating partner Vanessa Bauer after he shared a cryptic Instagram post.

The former Love Island star, 20, posted a throwback snap from last summer, captioning it: “Being happy is a way of life not a destination.”

Fans were quick to note the similarity between Nelson’s choice of caption and one of his more memorable moments from his stint on Love Island, when he revealed that he was “happy but could be happier” shortly before dumping fellow contestant Laura Anderson for Barton Hanson.

“I’m really glad you’re happy, but answer me this: Could you be happier?” one follower commented, recalling Nelson’s previous soundbite.

“But are you “happier” now?” another asked.

“You’re happy, but could you be happier?” another chimed in.

Drawing parallels with his situation on Love Island, some fans even jumped to the conclusion that he could be growing closer to his skating partner following the split.

“Get u hurry up and wife Vanessa already,” one wrote.

“You make an amazing couple Wes and Vanessa to win!!!” another follower added.

Split: the couple called time on their relationship after six months

Standard Online has contacted representatives for Nelson for comment.

Yesterday, Barton Hanson revealed that she was having a tough time in the wake of the couple’s high profile split, sharing an emotional statement with fans in which she described "one of the worst days of her life."

“I can’t thank you all enough for the support,” she wrote. “It makes it all worthwhile (the endless trolling, negative stories, dealing with publicly breaking up, being papped having to force a smile when my whole world is crumbling).”

“Feels like I can’t put a foot right BUT knowing I can help motivate / Inspire people even a TINY bit makes me want to continue on in the public eye.”

The couple dated for six months after meeting on the ITV2 reality show last summer, but confirmed their split over the weekend in a statement that parodied Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous “conscious uncoupling” announcement.
