Rebekah Vardy has hit out at the use of the term WAG, claiming that it’s an “outdated” label which has no place at the 2018 World Cup.

The wife of England striker Jamie Vardy might be supporting her husband in Russia, but she doesn’t want to “defined” by his job.

“WAG is a dated term because we're not defined by what our husbands do. We're individuals,” said Vardy in a new interview with Grazia.

Vardy has also defended her decision to take children Megan, 13, Taylor, eight, Sofia, three and 17-month-old Finlay out of school to watch the matches.

“It’s really important for Jamie. He knows we’re there to support him. He spotted us in the crowd when the players came out on the pitch before the game so we all smiled and waved,” she said.

“It’s not like I’m taking them to lie on a beach.”

The whole Vardy clan being at the World Cup has meant that the couple haven’t had much alone time together, despite the lack of a team sex ban this tournament.

“I think we’ll struggle to do it anyway with four kids in tow. It’s a logistical nightmare,” she said.

Despite being part of the England World Cup squad, the Leicester City striker hasn't been let off of parenting duties.

“Jamie's brilliant at changing nappies. He probably does it more than me at the minute,” said Vardy.

Vardy, who is am ambassador for a number of charities including Enough Abuse and Young Minds, rebuked Piers Morgan for calling her a WAG back in 2016, branding it a “derogatory” term.

“Oh come on Piers, that term is so dated. You can think of something better than that surely,” she told him during an interview on Good Morning Britain.

“I’m not just a wife and a girlfriend, I’m a Mum and there are so many more of the wives and the girlfriends that have careers and actually do other stuff instead of just you know sitting and shopping.”
