Vicky McClure has revealed Line of Duty fans will be left stunned by the new series.

McClure, who has played DCI Kate Fleming since 2012, said viewers of the BBC police drama have no idea what series five has in store.

Speaking to Red Magazine, McClure said: “Oh. My. God. The audience is going to be shocked. I would love nothing more than to work with Adie [Adrian Dunbar], Martin [Compston] and Jed [Mercurio] for my entirety, but everything has a shelf life, which won’t be determined by me.

“I always wonder, 'Is this the season I die?’"

The BAFTA-winning actress also told how she is regularly faced with disappointment when it comes to her work, revealing she applied for hit drama Peaky Blinders a number of times but never got a role.

She added: “When Suffragette came up I thought it could be a game-changer for me, but it wasn’t to be.

“I’ve also auditioned for every series of Peaky Blinders and never got it. Although work is regular, it doesn’t always go my way.”

The star added that she has no plans to “force” herself into a Hollywood movie, revealing that people “don’t see me in that category”.

McClure said: “I’m not going to do a pilot season in America. I understand people who do, some make money and secure one hell of a career.

“But I’ve stood in too many queues. I’ve got a great career, if you told me this is where I’d be 10 years ago, I’d have taken it!”
