Tom Odell has admitted that he will never be a showy stage performer and joked that his songs are for fans “to cry to”.

The Ivor Novello-winning singer, known for piano ballads such as Another Love and Real Love, has been off the radar since November, when he finished his world tour.

At the Royal Academy of Arts opening party, where he performed, he said: “I’ve finished the third album and it will be out very, very soon. It’s more songs to cry to! I’m really proud of the work, I think it’s my best ever.”

The singer is from Chichester, but said the album is “all very London — written in London, recorded in London. London feels like my home.

“I moved here when I was 19 and I’m 27 now.”

Odell added: “I think I’m the worst pop star in the world. I’m not a very good dancer for a start — I don’t have the confidence for that side of things.”

He was the main entertainment for the RA’s party to mark its 25th anniversary and the opening of its new campus.
