Timothée Chalamet reading has been hailed the “purest moment” of the SAG Awards.

Chalamet, 23, became a viral sensation after the cameras caught him flicking through a book during host Megan Mullally’s opening speech at Sunday night’s ceremony.

Emily Blunt and husband John Krasinki were pictured applauding and laughing to Mullally’s remarks while Chalamet was bent over, scouring a book on his lap at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Fans were predictably quick to speculate on what had enraptured Chalamet, with one joking that it was “the script for the Call Me By Your Name sequel”.

Another tweeted: “Purest moment of #SAGAwards thus far is definitely timothee chalamet reading the program.”

A second appeared to hit the nail on the head, tweeting: “Timothée reading the program... we STAN.”

Chalamet lost out on Best Supporting Actor to Green Book’s Mahershala Ali. He was nominated for his role as teenager Nicholas ‘Nic’ Sheff in Beautiful Boy.

Other winners included Blunt, who took home Supporting Actress for her role in A Quiet Place. The British star reduced her husband Krasinski to tears as she paid an emotional tribute to him on collecting her accolade.

Krasinski, who wrote, directed and starred in the dystopian horror, welled up and blew kisses to his wife, before she joked that he would have been in “major trouble” if he hadn't cast her.

A Star is Born was snubbed at Sunday night's ceremony which saw Black Panther pick up the coveted Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture gong and Rami Malek and Glenn Close awarded Best Actor and Actress respectively.
