Taron Egerton has revealed how he got “blind drunk” with his Rocketman co-star Richard Madden the night before filming Carpool Karaoke.

The pair, who respectively portray Sir Elton John and his music manager John Reid in the new biopic, enjoyed a night of partying before shooting the episode.

Appearing on the Late Late Show, Egerton explained: “I haven’t checked with Richard if this is okay to say, but we went out the night before and got blind drunk.

“Don’t worry, I made sure I sobered up before I drove. Yeah, we went out and had a good time, allowed an appropriate amount of time for me to sober up, and then we filmed Carpool Karaoke.”

The teaser for the Elton John inspired segment showed Egerton sported a multi-coloured feather costume and orange-tinted sunglasses inspired by the musical legend.

After squeezing into the car Madden mocked: “I think you should change mate.”

To which his irritated co-star responded: “Well Richard I’ve said this the whole time! I said it’s not going to work.

“Why is it you always get to look cool, smooth and winning, and like a handsome leading man, and I look like a big multi-coloured chicken? It’s ridiculous."

The clip then cut to the pair in their normal clothes driving around the streets of London, dipping into the singer’s musical catalogue as they belted out their hearts to 1973 classic Bennie And The Jets.

The duo stunned with the effortless rendition, which took place around the piano in classic Elton John style.

Carpool Karaoke is expected to air on Friday
