Susanna Reid has thrown herself into the ring to win a Valentine’s Day date with Idris Elba.

The Luther actor, 44, promised one lucky fan he would give them a ‘night to remember’ as part of a competition to raise money for the W.E. Can Lead charity campaign.

Clearly impressed with the offer of “champagne” and the chance to ‘pound his yams’, Reid’s co-star Ben Shephard signed her up on Good Morning Britain.

Revealing her certificate of entry, he said: “This is really good news. This is like Willy Wonka’s golden ticket. We have confirmation.”

“It could be me,” Reid joked, before Shephard and Kate Garraway suggested she could be a Bond girl to his James Bond if he was to be picked for the 007 role.

Keen to not get too carried away, Reid replied: “Let’s not rush things. I’m slightly embarrassed.”

Elba sent social media into meltdown when he made public his plea for romance in a tongue and cheek video.

Dressed in a grey suit and sipping on champagne he said: “I’d like you to be my Valentine. That’s right, love. Just you and me no one else around, just us.”

Explaining how the date will pan out he continued: “We’ll get things started off with cocktails or perhaps champagne. Once we’re feeling comfortable we can order whatever your heart desires maybe some truffles, a steak, pepper soup and fufu.

“That's an African dish, and you pound the yams. And you know what? I'll let you pound my yams.

“For desert you can have whatever you want – and I mean whatever you want.”
