Susannah Reid is set to leave the BBC for ITV’s new breakfast offering Good Morning Britain, according to The Sun.

The Strictly Come Dancing star has been chosen by the channel’s bosses to front their new morning show, which is set to replace their current offering Daybreak

Reid who currently hosts BBC One’s Breakfast show is set to head the new show alongside two other male presenters, and one other female presenter, and replace current Daybreak presenters Aled Jones and Lorraine Kelly.

A source told The Sun: "With Susanna Reid riding a wave of popularity, they hope she will be the one to inject some success into ITV breakfast."

The change of name to Good Morning Britain will be a throwback to the heyday of morning television in the 80s and it is hoped it will reinvigorate ITV’s breakfast audience. Good Morning Britain was first aired in 1983 and it is thought that the new show will revert back to the mix of current affairs, weather, cartoons, music and famous guests it was known for when it begun.

The replaced Daybreak began with much anticipation after The One Show pairing of Christin Bleakley and Adrian Chiles were recruited on big contracts.

However, bad reviews and poor ratings meant that the show has been beset with difficulties since its creation.

The source said to The Sun: "The 'Daybreak' saga is the most pressing issue on ITV's agenda. By ditching the 'Daybreak' name bosses are admitting it has no hope of being rescued. Instead, they are putting all their energies into a revamped 'Good Morning Britain' brand.”

Reid will anchor 'Good Morning Britain' from Mondays to Thursdays with the help of her co-presenters and one woman, while Lorraine Kelly returns to her flagship show and Aled Jones has landed a new weekend magazine slot.

This comes as it was revealed Strictly Come Dancing star Susanna has split from her husband Dominic Cotton after the father-of-three posted an ad on a dating website and listing himself as "currently separated".
