The Spice Girls are in talks with Glastonbury organisers over headlining the music festival, Mel B has said as girl power fever continues to grip the UK.

It comes after the iconic girl group announced they were reuniting last month, sparking jubilation among mega fans across Britain who scrambled to get tickets for their 2019 tour.

Fuelling rumours the group could take the Glastonbury stage, Mel B said the possibility of playing the festival has “been talked about”. But she added: “but we’re so pop and it’s so cool”.

She added: “I think Mel C would really appreciate us doing that - she's the cool one. She's the cool indie chick."

Speaking on Jessie Ware's Table Manners podcast, she said the girls are in talks with bosses Michael and Emily Eavis to headline the festival.

The group announced they were reuniting last month, though Victoria Beckham, also known as Posh Spice, will not be joining the band on tour.

Instead, Mel B - real name Melanie Brown - Melanie Chisholm, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton will perform across the UK next summer.

The stadium tour will kick off on June 1 at Manchester's Etihad Stadium before heading to Coventry's Ricoh Arena, Sunderland's Stadium of Light, Edinburgh's BT Murrayfield Stadium and Bristol's Ashton Gate Stadium.
