Sir Elton John was forced to stop midway through a live show after he was attacked by a flying necklace.

The legendary musician, 70, was performing at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, when he was hit in the mouth by the piece of jewellery.

A fan-captured video shows the musician singing Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting when the beads bounce off the piano and hit him on his teeth.

Sir Elton stops playing and can be seen holding his hand up to his mouth in pain as someone rushes over to his aide.

According to TMZ, Sir Elton had invited the front row of the audience to come on stage as he performed. It is thought one of those fans threw the necklace.

Sir Elton recently announced his retirement with a three-year Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, saying he won’t stop making music but that his “priorities have changed”.

Speaking to ITV’s Lorraine, he told how he wants to go out in a “really big way”.

He said: “I've worked as a musician since I was 17, I've had the most fantastic, lucky career, I've enjoyed every single minute of playing live.

“There have been moments in my career where...there have been dark times, but they've been self-induced, and my life is so wonderful now. And you know, 10 years ago, I wouldn't be sitting here saying this, but now, with the boys, it's time.

“I want it to be happy, jubilant, spectacular...and I want to bow out in a really big way and a great way.”

The tour will kick off in September before heading to Europe in April 2019, Asia in November 2019 and Australasia in December 2019.

He will then tour South America in March 2020, before returning to Europe – including the UK – in late 2020 before saying goodbye in North America in 2021.
