Sinead O’Connor has been found safe after she was reported missing in a suburb of Chicago, police said.

O’Connor, 49, had not been seen since yesterday after going on a bike ride, and US police had reportedly classified her as "missing suicidal” according to TMZ.

She was understood to have gone missing in Wilmette, Illinois and had not been seen since around 1pm on Sunday.

In a statement the Wilmette police said they were “seeking to check the well-being of Sinead O’Connor” after a “caller expressed concern for her well-being”.

The statement continued: "O’Connor reportedly left the Wilmette area for a bicycle ride yesterday at 6:00am and has not returned.”

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer posted a message on her Facebook which appeared to be directed at her eldest son just hours before she went missing.

Standard Online has contacted a representative for O’Connor for comment.
