Simon Cowell has hinted that One Direction’s hiatus will be longer than expected.

Adding to speculation that the British boy band have split for good, the band’s manager and music mogul has said that fans won’t see them together ‘for a while’.

In what is sure to be a blow to Directioners worldwide, the America’s Got Talent judge seemed to side-step questions about the band in a recent interview.

Speaking to Variety about which of his acts will appear on the new series of the talent show, Cowell said:

“We’ll have Fifth Harmony definitely this year because they’ve got an album coming out. It will be fantastic to have them on the show.

“One Direction I don’t think we’ll see for a while now, if I’m being honest with you. But the girls, definitely.”

While there are currently no plans for the former X Factor stars to reunite, they are all currently working on individual projects.

Niall Horan is expected to be the first of the band to release solo material, with new music reportedly set to drop next year.

A source told The Sun: “Niall is the band’s secret weapon — Modest and Syco believe he has what it takes to become a break out solo star.

“He has the songwriting and music talent, good looks and cheeky Irish personality which made him a favourite in the States.

“A deal with Syco is going to be signed in the coming weeks and Niall is already back in the studio writing.”

While Harry Styles is also thought to be working on solo material, he has put music on the backburner to concentrate on his acting career and is currently shooting his role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.
