Shannen Doherty has encouraged Michael Bublé to stay “positive” following the “devastating” diagnosis of his son’s cancer.

Doherty – who has been undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer – said Bublé needs to stay positive and trust his son’s doctors.

Speaking at the American Cancer Society's Inaugural Giants of Science Gala she told Entertainment Tonight: “I would imagine your child having cancer is devastating as a parent.

"Just trust in your doctors. Make sure you have amazing doctors, a great team, and know that organizations like the American Cancer Society [and] Stand Up to Cancer, they are doing so much good for cancer.

"And [there is] so much research that we have much better chances now."

She continued: "Stay positive. That positivity, that outlook on life that you can get through something, it actually does get you through."

Bublé announced the news of his son’s diagnosis in a statement via his wife Luisana Lopilato’s Facebook page.

“We are devastated by the recent cancer diagnosis of our eldest son Noah who is currently in treatment in the United States,” the statement read.

“We've always talked a lot about the importance of the family and the love we have for our children.

"Luisana and I are going to spend all our time and attention to help Noah to get better, by suspending our professional activities for now."

The statement continued: "During this difficult time, we ask that you pray for him and please respect our privacy.

“We have a long road ahead of us and we hope that with the support of our family, friends, fans around the world and our faith in God, we can win this battle."

Bublé's sister Daniela Lopilato told an Argentinian news show that the family have been left 'broken' by the news.

She also went on to dismiss reports that Noah was diagnosed with Leukemia saying: "It’s cancer, but it’s not leukemia – nor is it in his central nervous system, as they’ve been saying."

Bublé and Lopilato also have 10-month-old son Elias together.
