Ryan Gosling is attached to produce a biopic on the late Busby Berkeley.

The 33-year-old actor is circling to produce with Marc Platt, who worked with the hunk on 2011's Drive, and Gosling may also star in the forthcoming film which is based on Jeffrey Spivak's book Buzz: The Life and Art of Busby Berkeley, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Famed choreographer and director Berkeley was catapulted to the spotlight for work on Hollywood musicals during the Great Depression.

His hits include 42 Street, Gold Diggers of 1933, Footlight Parade and Fashions of 1934.

He has been quoted saying: "In an era of breadlines, depression and wars I tried to help people get away from all the misery ... to turn their minds to something else. I wanted to make people happy, if only for an hour."
