Comedian Roseanne Barr has defended herself in a fresh Twitter rant after her US television show was cancelled over a racist comment.

Her sitcom had returned to the network in March after two decades - to enormous ratings.

Barr, 65, later deleted the tweet, and apologised before saying she would be quitting Twitter.

But she has since returned to the social media site, appealing for people to defend her and sharing her own messages of defiance.

Here's Roseanne Barr's Twitter rampage in full.

Barr wrote in a now-deleted tweet early on Tuesday that former Obama White House adviser Ms Jarrett, who was born in Iran, was the "baby" of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet Of The Apes.

Her remarks were in response to a thread that alleged Ms Jarrett had helped to conceal CIA spying.

She wrote: "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj"

In a statement, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."

After her tweet drew criticism the TV star deleted it and posted that she was leaving Twitter.

Barr later returned to apologise to her colleagues on the show who lost their jobs following the show's cancellation.

She also retweeted a number of posts by fans who had tweeted in support of her using the hashtag #StandWithRoseanne.

One tweet juxtaposed Barr's comparison of Ms Jarrett with an ape to other posts comparing images of US President Donald Trump to orangutans.

But she quickly addressed fans, asking them not to defend her.

Yet Barr showed no signs of abandoning Twitter, saying that she had taken the sleeping pill Ambien when she wrote the offensive tweet.

She also pleaded with fans not to boycott ABC.

And then the star shared posts defending her actions.

She also suggested that the sleeping pills have previously made her do "weird stuff".

Barr continued to retweet posts early on Wednesday, including messages that attacked ABC and claimed she is not a racist.

Ms Jarrett is yet to respond to Barr's apology on Twitter, only tweeting a response to actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who had shared a selfie of the two of them.

Earlier, speaking on MSNBC, she said: "I'm fine. I'm worried about the people out there who don't have a circle of friends and followers who come right to their defence."

Barr served as a star and executive producer on the ABC show, which was a ratings phenomenon when it returned to US television earlier this year for a tenth series, after its original run came to an end in May 1997.

The 65-year-old actress and her co-star John Goodman reportedly earned about 250,000 dollars (£190,000) per episode, according to Variety.
