Robert De Niro has said that he supports those who have chosen to boycott Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony.

The A-list actor, who was a vocal Hillary Clinton supporter during the US Presidential Elections, thinks that whatever people want to do they should ‘do it fully’.

When asked if calls to boycott Friday’s inauguration were warranted, De Niro said: “Yeah, I think they are. I think that whatever people do, they should do it fully because there’s a lot of crazy stuff happening now.

“It’s just crazy. And maybe it’s an act, and we’ll see once he’s in, but everybody has to be on guard.”

When asked if there will come a point when everyone has to get behind whoever is in office, he added:

“Of course, but there’s that old phrase ‘Do you believe what I see, or do you believe what I tell you?’ I think you know what I’m talking about. It’s disturbing.”

De Niro wrote an open letter to former co-star Meryl Streep after she slammed Trump during her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes earlier this month.

"Meryl – What you said was great. It needed to be said, and you said it beautifully. I have so much respect for you that you did it while the world was celebrating your achievements,” he wrote.

“I share your sentiments about punks and bullies. Enough is enough.

“You, with your elegance and intelligence, have a powerful voice – one that inspires others to speak up as they should so their voices will be heard too. It is so important that we ALL speak up. We love you. Bob.”
