Robbie Williams was loving angels in 1997 – and now he’s opened up about his belief in aliens.

The 44-year-old singer claims he has experienced multiple “intriguing and powerful” close encounters in the UK and across the pond.

Recalling one encounter on 60 Minutes, he claimed to have come within touching distance of a UFO.

“I’ve seen a few strange things,” he said. “I’ve experienced phenomena I can’t explain.

“I’ve seen one right above me and if I got a tennis ball out I could have hit it with a tennis ball.”

Williams insisted he was sober when he encountered the suspicious object, saying: “No substance was involved. No, no substance was involved at all.”

It’s not the first time the Let Me Entertain You singer has opened up about his alleged encounters.

Speaking on an Irish radio station last year he said: “I’ve seen stuff that I can’t explain... I’ve had a UFO right above my head, totally sober.

“Less than 150 feet above my head and there it was.”

Robbie Williams: The Heavy Entertainment Show - In pictures

Williams is currently on the Australasia leg of his Heavy Entertainment Show world tour. He was forced to cancel a string of dates last year after being struck down by a mystery illness which left him in intensive care.

The singer was taken ill backstage after a gig in Zurich in September after his left arm went numb and he was left struggling to breathe.

Recalling the terrifying incident to The Sun, he said: “I had blood tests done, and I had various scans including ones of my heart and my brain, and there were some abnormalities found, including something on my brain that looked like blood.

“That was obviously very scary, so the decision was taken out of my hands and I was sent straight to the intensive care unit.”

He was discharged after a week and spent the next two months recovering at home in Los Angeles with his wife Ayda Field, 38, and their two children.
