Chris Moyles has been forced to deny he has died after an online hoax claimed he was involved in an "aubergine related incident".

The Radio X presenter, 45, was faced with a series of tributes reading #RIPChrisMoyles after several tweets were published stating he had died.

His Wikipedia page was also amended various times to state the reason for his “death”, including “died in an aubergine related incident while screaming ‘absolutely fantastic’” and “second hand embarrassment of his producer James Robinson”.

The tweets lead to the hashtag being the number one trending topic on Twitter earlier today.

Tributes posted by fans included one saying: “He redefined breakfast radio for the next generation. Will be sorely missed!”

Another added: “I can’t believe. Gone too soon.”

One person shared a picture with the star and joked: "Had the pleasure of meeting @ChrisMoyles at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny. Sending thoughts and prayers."

Moyles then posted “I’m alive #moylesisrisen”, and later posted a photograph of himself by his microphone.

His Wikipedia page has since been edited to remove the false information.

Moyles was formerly the BBC Radio One Breakfast Show host before being replaced by Nick Grimshaw in 2012.
