Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly hit the £1 million mark for Comic Relief, hours after they officially broke the record set by Sara Cox with over 24 hours of non-stop dancing.

The Strictly Come Dancing presenters beat radio host Cox’s 2017 effort after they completed over a day’s worth of shimmying, swaying and bopping in a bid to raise money for the charity.

The new total revealed that the pair raised a staggering £1,012,483.

The total has seen a massive boost as the pair racked up £782,686 at the end of the epic event on Tuesday evening.

Winkelman admitted she was “overwhelmed” by the increase in a sweet Instagram post.

Sharing a snap from the final moments of the danceathon, she wrote: “A new total. Thank you so so much for donating. Completely overwhelmed.”

Fans flooded the presenter’s comments section with messages of support for the “brilliant achievement.”

A third added: “Well done to you and Tess, hope your feet are ok.”

The pair kicked off their stint on BBCR2 at 7:15pm on Monday and saw the end of the event at 7:20pm on Tuesday, closing with Destiny Child’s 2001 smash hit Survivor.

Closing the show, an exhausted Winkleman and Daly said: “It’s incredible. The listeners have been amazing and all the presenters have looked after us brilliantly. All we want to do is sit down.”

On completing the mammoth task, the pair joked that they now “hate dancing” and refused to return to Strictly Come Dancing.

The massive total comes ahead of the Red Nose Day telethon on Friday.
