Rachel Bloom has revealed that she splashed out $3,500 on her own Gucci gown for the Emmy Awards as no designer offered to dress her.

The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star said she found it hard to get designers to lend her awards outfits as she’s “not a size zero”.

While Bloom later clarified that she hadn’t actually reached out to Gucci for a dress, she said it was “slim-pickings for non-sample size ladies”.

“I bought this dress because Gucci is not lending me a dress,” Bloom said on the red carpet.

“I love it [and] I can resell it. I said in an interview before it is hard to get places to lend to me because I'm not a size zero, but also I can afford it, so it's okay.”

She added: “I can always resell it on the The Real Real tomorrow. It’s hard to get places to lend me dresses because I’m not a size zero, but I can afford it, so it’s okay.”

Bloom has been vocal about designers’ lack of desire to dress her for showbiz events in the past, saying that she spends her own money on red carpet attire.

“What has become apparent when I have to get clothes for these events is that I have a normal body,” she wrote in a blog post for Wealthsimple.

“A lot of fashion houses are reluctant to lend clothes that aren't in the sample sizes of 0 and 2, so it's getting harder and harder for me to find clothes without buying them.”

She added: “our typical nice designer dresses, at least the kind of stuff that I wear for events, can range from $500 to $3,000, and you want to wear a different outfit for every event because it's a whole red-carpet thing.

“It’s a lot of dresses. I guess it’s all part of the job. I guess if everything changes, I can always resell them.”

Leslie Jones recently spoke out about the same issue, revealing that no one had wanted to dress her for the Ghostbusters red carpet.

“It's so funny how there are no designers wanting to help me with a premiere dress for movie,” she wrote on Twitter. “Hmmm that will change and I remember everything."

Model Ashley Graham slammed the decision of fashion houses not to dress her for a recent cover of British Vogue.

“Sixty-seven percent of the women in America wear a size 14 or larger. Sixty-seven percent,” she said.

"Maybe you could ignore those consumers before, but now, thanks to social media, they’re making their voices heard."

"Women are demanding that brands give them what they want. And what they want is to be visible."
