The cast of Peaky Blinders have hinted that a major mystery will be revealed at the start of the new series.

Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby in the BBC's critically-acclaimed gangster show, is keeping fans guessing about who he marries in the opening episode.

“Of course I won’t reveal the bride’s identity, but the wedding doesn’t go smoothly,” he told What’s On TV.

“The interesting thing about Tommy is that he never reacts how you’d expect a normal human being to react and that’s why he’s such a brilliantly drawn character.”

Murphy, Helen McCrory and Annabelle Wallis all attended the official launch of series three at the BFI Southbank on Tuesday evening.

A number of famous fans of the Birmingham-based gangster drama were able to get a first look at the brand new series before it airs on the BBC on Thursday.

Ricky Wilson and Melanie Sykes both stopped by to see the first episode and listen to an exclusive Q&A by the cast.

Damian Lewis supported wife McCrory, who plays Polly Gray in the critically acclaimed show, just a few days after they attended the annual Correspondents' Dinner at the White House.

Talking about working with Tom Hardy on the new series, Murphy said: “Tom returns as London ganster Alfie Solomons and it’s always great fun working with him.

“We starred alongside each other in The Dark Knight Rises, so we always try and have a laugh between takes because the scenes are so powerful.”

The third series will air on BBC 2 on May 5 and will then be streamed on Netflix on May 29.
