Paul Hollywood has dismissed rumours that Mary Berry is set to step down from her role on the Great British Bake Off.

The professional baker, who has fronted the show with the 81-year-old TV chef for six years, thinks that she will be presenting for years to come.

Despite speculation that the popular BBC show is in the process of undergoing changes, Hollywood thinks it will keep going for 20 years.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “Look at how long ‘Masterchef’ has been running - 20-odd years?

“Mary’s mother came on to the set on the first series. She was 104. So if you live 20 years after your parents, so Mary’ll be 124. We’ve a few years yet.”

Last year Berry insisted that she had no plans to retire as she approached her 80th year.

“I can’t bear the thought of retirement and I haven’t prepared myself for it,” she told Hello.

“I don’t play bridge and I don’t play golf. Besides, why should I retire when I love every moment?”

Berry has been making a name for herself across the pond in the US, fronting The Great Holiday Baking Show.
