The biggest night in the awards season calendar is nearly upon us as the A-listers gear up to walk the red carpet in Hollywood tonight.

While a number of stars have opted to boycott this year’s ceremony amid the ‘#OscarsSoWhite’ controversy, nominees including Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet are all expected to attend.

The red carpet will kick off at 4pm EST, meaning that fans in the UK will have to wait up until midnight to see the first arrivals and catch a glimpse of the best-dressed stars.

Celebrating this year’s best film and filmmakers in 24 categories, the 88th annual Academy Awards will be hosted by Chris Rock and will be televised on ABC in the US and on Sky Movies in the UK.

While there are usually one or two surprises when it comes to the winners, this year’s main categories already seem to be in the bag.

It looks like 2016 will finally be the year that Leonardo DiCaprio wins Best Actor for The Revenant, after winning big at the Baftas and the Golden Globes.

Brie Larson is also pretty much a dead cert to pick up Best Actress for Room, while Kate Winslet and Alicia Vikander will battle it out in the supporting category.

Director Alejandro González Iñárritu seems likely to walk away with the trophy for Best Director for The Revenant, which will make him the third actor in history to win the prize two year in a row.

When it comes to the coveted Best Picture award the playing field is a little more open, with either Spotlight, The Big Short or The Revenant expected to win.
