Nick Grimshaw has revealed that his early starts for Radio 1’s Breakfast Show have had a negative impact on his love life for the last six years.

The presenter, 33, said that finally stepping down from his role as Breakfast host and switching to drivetime means that he can finally start dating again and potentially find love.

“I think I will have more time to put my life first. I have committed to this show, especially the last year, and I have put my head down. But now I can go for dates with people and the new show will help,” he told the Daily Mirror.

"I have been trying to date people, but you don’t want to ‘day date’ and even two weeks ago, I went on a date and then he said, ‘do you want to go to the cinema, it’s at 8.20pm?’.

“And I was thinking, ‘8.20, arrggh the film won’t start until ten-to-nine so it won’t finish before 11’ so home and asleep at midnight and that is if I fall asleep straight away.”'

He added: "It does send you a bit mad and sort of becomes your life, because everything you are watching and consuming each day you are trying to produce content for the next morning, because you can’t do it before 5am."

Grimshaw said that he has had a number of short-term relationships in the past and has even tried dating app Bumble, but to no avail.

The DJ took over the early-morning radio programme from Chris Moyles six years ago but announced his departure in May saying he was "really tired".

He will be replaced by Greg James and will take over his Radio 1 drivetime slot in a job swap between the pair.

Grimshaw’s final show aired on Thursday morning, opening with Kanye West and Jay-Z collaboration N***** In Paris - the first song he played when he started the job in 2012.

In May 2018, Grimshaw became the Radio 1 Breakfast Show's second longest-running host in the programme's history, taking over the previous record held by Tony Blackburn.
