Downton Abbey, EastEnders and The Great British Bake-Off all picked up prizes at this year’s National Television Awards.

Proving that they’re just as popular as ever, Ant and Dec were named Best Presenters for the 15th consecutive year.

“This is getting a bit silly now. But honestly, we get more and more grateful each year,” Dec told the crowd.

Suranne Jones was one of the big winners of the night, recognised for her role in Doctor Foster.

As well as winning Best Drama Performance of the Year, a heavily pregnant Jones also accepted the trophy for Best Drama.

After thanking the fans, the actress admitted that the cast and crew were already working on the second series, which will air in September.

Seeing off competition from Broadchurch and Dr Who, the final series of Julian Fellowes’ ITV hit show was named Best Drama on Wednesday night.

Accepting the award on behalf the whole cast, Hugh Bonneville joked: “This is the last possible time we could have won so be thankful for that.”

“This is a happy ending and you know I love happy endings,” Fellowes added.

There was no surprise that The Great British Bake-Off was named Best Challenge Show, while I’m A Celebrity won Best Entertainment.

EastEnders also had a good night, winning Best Serial while Danny Dyer won Best Serial Performance for his role as Mick Carter.

Poldark’s Aiden Turner seemed genuinely surprised to win the inaugural Impact Award, which honours the best TV moment of the year, admitting that hadn't even realised he was nominated.

Dustin Hoffman made a surprise appearance during the ceremony to honour his friend Billy Connolly, who was given the Special Recognition Award to a standing ovation.
