Henry Cavill has thrown his hat into the ring to play James Bond.

The Superman star, 35, is keen to try his hand at playing 007 after Daniel Craig steps down following Bond 25.

Cavill believes his latest role as a CIA agent in Mission: Impossible – Fallout has prepared him well for taking over as the British spy.

“I would love to do it of course,” he told Yahoo Movies.

“I think Bond would be a really fun role. It’s British, it’s cool.”

He continued: “I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well.

“Not to say they weren’t doing real stunts I’m just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I’ve learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond.”

But the star, who has odds of 25/1 to play Bond, according to Betfair, faces tough competition from Joe Cole.

The Peaky Blinders star recently voiced his desire to take over from Craig – and his odds fare better at 10/1.

Speaking to the Evening Standard he said: “I think every young actor in the UK has been linked to James Bond. I’d like to play James Bond. I’ve played enough villains.”

Other names rumoured include Idris Elba, Aidan Turner, Jamie Bell and Tom Hiddleston.

Craig has reportedly been tempted back to 007 for a final outing in Bond 25 with an eye-watering pay cheque of $25 million (£18 million).

The film is set for release next November and will be directed by Danny Boyle.
