British actor George Cole has died at the age of 90, his rep has confirmed.
The much-loved star, who was best known for his role as Arthur Daley in Minder, is thought to have been battling a long-term illness.
Cole's career spanned more than 70 years after landing a role in a touring musical at the age of 15, but is most recognised for playing Daley in the long-running series.
In 1943, the actor starred alongside Laurence Olivier in the Demi-Paradise and the following year in his film version of Henry V.
Cole became well known in the 1950s for his comic roles in a number of British films including Scrooge, Too Many Crooks and as Flash Harry in the St Trinians films.
The actor took on the role as dodgy used car dealer Daley in 1979 and played the character until the ITV show wrapped in 1994.
The star lived in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire with his wife Penny, who recently claimed that he became 'deeply depressed' over a dispute with a neighbour.
