Michael Sheen has admitted that he was ‘very sad’ to discover that he had been completely cut from Finding Dory.

The Welsh actor said he received a phone call telling him that his scenes hadn’t made the final film and thought it was ‘unbelievable’.

Speaking to Magic FM at the Into Film Awards, Sheen said: “I got a phone call saying I'm not in [Finding Dory] any more, they cut me out.

“Unbelievable. I was very sad, I was such a fan of Finding Nemo, but that's the way it goes, especially with animated films - you never know what's going to make it to the final cut.

Sheen, who has starred in films including The Queen and Frost/Nixon, admitted that even big name stars can find themselves cut from a film.

“It's always a good thing to remember - you can always end up on the cutting room floor,” he said.

The follow-up to 2003’s Finding Nemo, which sees forgetful blue fish Dory embark on a journey to find her family, features Elle DeGeneres in the lead role.

Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy also star in the film, as do Albert Brooks, Ty Burrell and Ed O'Neill.

Finding Dory will be released in the UK on July 29.
