Mac Miller was reportedly dead for hours before his body was discovered.

Miller was found unresponsive at his California home last Friday following a reported overdose at the age of 26.

According to TMZ, law enforcement sources believe the American rapper had died long before they arrived in response to an emergency call.

The publication added that police are reportedly looking into the party Miller held at his home the night before his death.

The exact cause of Miller’s death is still unknown and will not be determined until results from a toxicology report return in four to six weeks.

Miller’s family are believed to be able to proceed with laying him to rest.

Standard Online has contacted representatives for Miller for comment.

His family last week confirmed the news of his death in a statement which read: “Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26.

“He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”

Hundreds of celebrity friends have paid their respects to the star publicly.

Miller’s ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande posted a touching tribute following the news.

The No Tears Left To Cry singer, 25, posted a black and white photograph of Miller looking up at the camera on her Instagram account. The image was shared without a caption and with the comments disabled.

Grande and Miller dated for around two years before breaking up earlier this year.
