Lorde impressed fans by wearing a feminist essay on her Grammys dress in support of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.

The New Zealander was the only female artist to be nominated for album of the year but not offered a solo performance spot, following the 2017 release of Melodrama.

21-year-old Lorde, real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, took to social media to post a picture of the back of her dress during the awards.

Posting on Instagram, the singer attached a quote from Jenny Holzer’s Inflammatory Essays.

The quote reads: “Rejoice! Our times are intolerable. Take coverage for the worst is a harbinger of the best. Only dire circumstance can precipitate the overthrow of oppressors.

“The old and corrupt must be laid to waste before the just can triumph. Contradiction will be heightened. The reckoning will be hastened by the staging of seed disturbances. The apocalypse will blossom.”

The Royals singer declared the excerpt her “version of a white rose”, in support of the Time’s Up campaign which aims to see an end to sexual harassment in Hollywood, in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein allegations.

She captioned Instagram post: “My version of a white rose — THE APOCALYPSE WILL BLOSSOM — an excerpt from the greatest of all time, jenny holzer.”

Prior to the event Voices of Entertainment, a group made up of women in the industry announced that attendees would be wearing a white rose in order to show continued support for the Time's Up initiative.

"As we are inspired by the #timesup campaign, we are encouraging the artists that we work with and our colleagues attending the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in New York City to wear a white rose to the ceremony on Sunday, January 28th" explained a letter by the groups founders Meg Harkins and Karen Rait.

“We chose the white rose because historically it stands for hope, peace, sympathy and resistance.”

Lady Gaga, Anna Kendrick, Rita Ora and Pink were just a few of the stars who fastened a single white rose onto their glamorous gowns.

The news follows this year’s Golden Globes, in which actors and actresses stuck to an all-black dress code to show their support for the movement.
