Katie Price has claimed hospital staff admitted a blunder on their behalf caused her son Harvey’s brain damage.

Price, 38, said doctors failed to pick up on a problem with Harvey’s pituitary gland during an MRI scan, which resulted in him being left partially brain damaged.

Speaking on Loose Women about her son – who has septo-optic dysplasia, Prader-Willi syndrome and is on the autistic spectrum – she said: “The hospital did admit it was their fault that when they did an MRI scan they missed out on his pituitary gland and starved him of the medication he needed which gave him a bit of brain damage.”

Price said she decided against legal action, saying: “You can’t sue the hospital because you need them. He’ll need the NHS for the rest of his life.

“It’s heartbreaking. It’s been really tough for him. But I’d always have another child the same.”

The former glamour model also recalled the moment Harvey was diagnosed as being blind after his six week check-up.

“I had a normal pregnancy – best one out of all of them actually,” she said. “The health visitor came for the six week check and she said ‘is he smiling at you?’ and I said ‘no not really’.

“I saw a doctor and was referred to an eye specialist. He shone a torch and all I remember is him saying ‘he’s blind’. We were left in the dark thinking what do we do?”

Price said she has never got upset about her son’s disabilities, but said she is more protective of him than she is with her other children.

“I’ve never cried about the fact he was blind but I look at him more protectively,” she said. “Everyone always thinks he’s my favourite, but it’s not that. I’ve just been protective.”

Price had Harvey with footballer Dwight Yorke. She also has son Junior, 11, and daughter Princess, nine, with ex-husband Peter Andre, as well as son Jett, three, and two-year-old daughter Bunny with Kieran Hayler.
