Kim Kardashian has confirmed that her Kimono shapewear brand will be launched under a new name after it was branded ‘disrespectful’ by critics.

The reality star’s underwear line sparked a major backlash when it launched last week, with many people pointing out the reference to the Japanese kimono, a long-sleeved robe which dates back to the 15th Century.

Kardashian responded to the criticism in a statement released to the New York Times last week, claiming that it was intended as “a nod to the beauty and detail that goes into a garment.”

The fashion and beauty entrepreneur has since apologised for the row and revealed that the line is set to be re-branded.

“Being an entrepreneur and my own boss has been one of the most rewarding challenges I’ve been blessed with in my life,” she wrote on Twitter this afternoon.

“What’s made it possible for me after all of these years has been the direct line of communication with my fans and the public.

“I am always listening, learning and growing - I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me. When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind.

“My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name.”

Kardashian said that she will “be in touch soon” to unveil the new name and thanked fans for their “understanding and support.”

Twitter users shared their criticism of the brand using the hashtag #KimOhNo last week and a Change.org petition titled “Say no to Kim Kardashian’s ‘KIMONO’” has been signed by over 126,000 people.
