Katie Price has been praised by the British Lung Foundation for her fundraising efforts despite failing to finish the London Marathon.

The Loose Women panellist was running for the charity on behalf of her mother Amy who is living with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

Price – who was dressed as a pair of lungs – pulled out less than halfway through the gruelling 26.2 mile route on Sunday morning.

But she was commended for bringing awareness to the organisation which had 131 people run on its behalf last weekend.

Jason Cater, the charity’s director of fundraising, told The Sun: “Most years we have members of Team Breathe who pull out of the marathon for various personal reasons, and they are always gutted that they can’t cross the finish line. We know they’re passionate about the British Lung Foundation and we value their ongoing support....

“It’s thanks to the fantastic fundraising efforts and awareness raising of people like Katie and all of our Team Breathe members that we’re able to continue or vital work researching new treatments, raising awareness of lung health and supporting people living with lung disease across the UK.”

Fans previously refused to donate as they feared she would pull out of the race after she recently cancelled a string of tour dates due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Price, who vowed to complete the race even if she had to crawl over the line, said she struggled to train for this year’s race due to her damaged knees.

She hit back at critics, who scolded her for failing to finish in a video, saying: “I did train for the run, tried my best in a heavy outfit and if my mummy is proud that's what matters to me.”

Price’s mother Amy was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) last year. The condition causes scarring of the lungs which leaves sufferers struggling to breathe.
