Katie Price’s fans have warned the former glamour model about the dangers of Salmonella after she shared a photo of her son Jett holding a turtle.

The star’s followers were quick to point out the potential health risks when the 40-year-old posted an image of her five-year-old son clutching the tiny reptile between his fingers, pursing his lips as if about to kiss the pet.

“Sooo cute Jett holding Harvey’s turtle named Gummy Bear,” Price wrote in the caption.

While some fans described the candid snap as “adorable” and “sweet,” others were worried that Price might not be aware of the health implications for her child.

“Really shouldn’t handle them as [they] carry Salmonella! Please be careful,” one follower warned.

“They carry Salmonella be careful with the little one,” another chimed in.

“This is true we had a turtle and [were] told to make sure you washed your hands well after handling it as you can get salmonella from them,” a concerned fan recommended.

The Salmonella bacteria is a common cause of food poisoning, and infection can often cause nausea, vomiting and fever.

Infection is often prompted by eating raw or undercooked foods, especially meat, poultry and eggs, but the bacteria can also be found on the skin of exotic pets, including turtles and other reptiles.

Turtle owners are advised to thoroughly wash their hands with soap and warm water after handling their pet or cleaning out a terrarium.

Price’s post comes one day after she received criticism for posting photos of her newly refurbished home, having previously told a judge that she would be unable to pay a £1,100 fine for driving while disqualified and without insurance.
