Donald Trump supporter Jon Voight has accused Shia LaBeouf and Miley Cyrus of ‘teaching treason’ after they protested against the new President following his inauguration.

Voight, 78, said LaBeouf and Cyrus’ anti-government conduct is “destructive” as they have a lot of influence over young people.

Speaking to TMZ about the Women’s March last weekend, which Cyrus took part in, Voight said: “It’s been very serious and very destructive, this marching against the government and against the President. Very, very serious.”

Voight agreed, when challenged, that the march falls in line with First Amendment rights, but claimed it had become more about 'denigrating' Mr Trump’s office.

He continued: “What was the march about? The march was against the government and against this president, trying to denigrate his office and his presidency, and that’s no good.

“And when you see the young people, like Shia LaBeouf and Miley Cyrus, and they have a lot of followers. Young people are looking at them, and what are they teaching? They’re teaching treason.”

Voight continued: “They’re teaching going up against the government, not accepting the will of the people on this presidency. And it’s a very sad day, really, when I see this.

“This Hollywood group, I find it — it’s a very sad thing for me to witness what they’re doing. They have a huge amount of influence so it’s not so good.”

LaBeouf launched a live stream video installation outside New York’s Museum of the Moving Image on the day of Mr Trump’s inauguration.

Titled, He Will Not Divide Us, the project encourages individuals to participate by saying the phrase “he will not divide us” throughout Mr Trump’s four years in power.

The Transformers actor was arrested by NYPD officers in the early hours of Thursday morning after he got into a scuffle with a Trump supporter.

Standard Online has contacted representatives for Cyrus and LaBeouf for comment.
