Singer Jason Mraz has said he plans to “walk away” from his career before he gets frustrated with the pressures of success.

The I’m Yours singer, who has two Grammys to his name, told the Standard he one day wants to sing solely for altruistic reasons rather than to sell music.

“What’s left for me to achieve is to walk away from it all,” he said. “I see a lot of people grow old doing it and a lot of people get frustrated and I don’t want to live my life like that.

“I feel like I have been given an extraordinary opportunity to give [music] a shot and have incredible success. I love being of service through song.

“I feel like the next phase of my life will be using music for the power of good instead of the power of product. There is a lot of pressure for the product to succeed.”

Last week the 40-year-old released a new song, Unlonely, ahead of his latest album Know.

He said of songwriting: “Love is a topic that constantly needs to be discovered as long as we are in our human meat suits, there is always death hovering over us.

As long as we are in our human meat suits, there is always death hovering over us. So the more we can present love, joy, gratitude, hope and healing, the better the ride is.”

Discussing his forthcoming music, Mraz told how this album was a “continuation” of the themes he had previously explored namely “peace and love.”

“The theme of this album is a continuation of the themes I’ve been writing about for the past 10 years and this sounds super generic but its peace and love.

“We still don’t have peace in the world. Peace I feel is an inside job, love is an inside job. Get to that place within ourselves to experience inner peace and then we’ll project [that] outwardly.”

Know is out August 10
