DVD Giant: Warner Home Video PG, £12.99

One of the first cowboy films to switch the emphasis from Injuns to oil, and to dramatise the clash between cattle and oil barons, George Stevens's Oscar-winning epic is a cracking (if sprawling) tale of love, money and the trouble they bring.

All three stars are on top form, and the extras on this two-disc set are excellent, including two docs about the film's making and legacy and a contemporary newsreel.
