Yann Demange is the current frontrunner to direct the next James Bond film, according to reports.

The French director could take over the helm from Sam Mendes, who stepped down from the famous spy franchise in May 2016 after Skyfall and Spectre.

Variety reported that Demange, famed for 71 and White Boy Rick, is the favourite.

He may face competition from Denis Villeneuve, who is currently wrapping up Blade Runner 2049, and Hell Or High Water director David Mackenzie.

“James Bond will return to US cinemas on November 8, 2019 with a traditional earlier release in the UK and the rest of the world,” read a tweet posted to the franchise’s official account.

Studio bosses went on to say that international release dates and a cast list would be announced “at a later date”.

Daniel Craig - In pictures

Daniel Craig is thought to be in the process of signing a contract to reprise his role as the 007 agent after reportedly being convinced by producer Barbara Broccoli.

The British actor previously joked that he would ‘rather slash his wrists’ than play the secret service spy again.

Former Bond, Pierce Brosnan backed “brilliant” Craig to play the character into his fifties, but said there is an age where he must say “enough’s enough”.

Adele, who won an Oscar for her Skyfall theme song, is also reportedly being considered to record the Bond25 theme.

“Craig and Adele together are the winning team, the ultimate choice, the money spinners,” a source told The Mirror.
