Stormzy will go head to head with Manchester indie band Everything Everything at the Ivor Novellos after both were nominated for two major awards today.

And Ed Sheeran’s dominance of the airwaves was confirmed when two of his songs made a shortlist of the three tracks played most on UK radio last year.

South London grime star Stormzy’s debut Gang Signs & Prayer is up for best album, alongside Everything Everything’s fourth record A Fever Dream.

This Is The Kit (Kate Stables) is also nominated for her album Moonshine Freeze.

Everything Everything’s Can’t Do is in the running for best song musically and lyrically. It is up against previous winner Elbow, for Magnificent (She Says); and last year’s Mercury Prize winner Sampha, for (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano.

Don’t Cry For Me, by Stormzy and Game Of Thrones actor Raleigh Ritchie, is nominated for best contemporary song and will face CamelPhat’s Cola and Question Time by 19-year-old Streatham rapper Dave — which criticises politicians and highlights the plight of Grenfell Tower victims.

In the category of PRS For Music Most Performed Work, Sheeran’s Castle On The Hill and Shape Of You will compete against Human by Rag ’n’ Bone Man.

Competing to be named best original film score are Jackie Kennedy drama Jackie, Stephen King horror IT, and Paddington 2.

Q Awards: Stormzy, Liam Gallagher and Ed Sheeran among winners

Barbara Windsor biopic Babs, alt-history series SS-GB and period thriller The Miniaturist — all BBC productions — are nominated for best TV soundtrack. A new award debuts: best original video game score. Nominees are Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony hosted by Paul Gambaccini at Grosvenor House Hotel on May 31.

Crispin Hunt, chairman of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, said: “Basca’s nominations are a mirror of the eclectic and inspirational reach of current UK music.”
