Kristen Bell opened this year’s SAG Awards by mocking Melania Trump and criticising the lack of progress in her cyber-bullying initiative.

The actress and comedian dubbed herself the First Lady of the SAG awards as she became the first ever host of the annual ceremony on Sunday night.

And the Frozen star couldn’t help but get in a brutal dig at the expense of the real First Lady, taking a thinly-veiled swipe at her promise to wipe out cyber-bulling.

‘I never thought I’d grow up to be the first lady, but you know what? I kinda like it,” she joked. “I think my first initiative as first lady will be cyber-bullying.”

She added: “Because I have yet to see any progress made on that problem quite yet.”

Bell then turned to the more serious topic of sexual assault and harassment in Hollywood, telling the audience that the industry was having a “watershed moment”.

“Everyone’s story deserves to be told, especially now,” she said. “We are living in a watershed moment and as we march forward with active momentum and open ears, let’s make sure that we’re leading the charge with empathy and with diligence because fear and anger never win the race.”

Ending on a slightly lighter note, she added: “And most importantly, regardless of our differences, we can all come together and delight in one thing – Frozen 2 is coming to theatres in 2019 you guys, I’m very excited.”

Big winners at Sunday night’s ceremony included Gary Oldman and Frances McDormand, who picked up the top acting prizes and Three Billboards Outside Ebbbing, Missouri, which won Best Film.
