Lily Allen has spoken out in defence of Olly Murs after he hinted that last year’s terror scare in Oxford Circus was a cover-up.

Murs, 33, was accused of spreading fear after he live tweeted the incident from inside Selfridges on November 24, claiming he heard gunshots.

“F*** everyone get out of Selfridges now, gun shots! I’m inside,” he posted to his 8.4 million followers. But police later confirmed they found no “evidence of any shots fired or any suspects located by officers”.

Murs recently alleged another frightened shopper also claimed they had heard gunfire. Throwing her support behind Mur’s claims Allen said: “I believe Olly.”

Her tweet came hours after Murs recalled the incident in an interview with The Sun. He said: “Whether they were shooting into the air, or whatever, something happened that day – whether it was covered up, I don’t know.

“It’s all a bit murky.”

Murs revealed he was testing out a massage chair in the department store for his aunt when he claimed he was “thrown against a wall” before being ushered into a back room.

“The manager was in there, other senior people,” he said. “This woman said ‘Someone was up there shooting, I could see him, in the beauty aisle he had a gun.’

“This girl was saying ‘Don’t tell me I’m lying, I saw this guy with my own eyes’. Whether he shot someone or was shooting in the air – well, obviously he didn’t shoot anyone – but someone saw something.”

Murs was lambasted by Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan for creating “extra needless panic” with his tweets.

Morgan posted: “Stop tweeting mate. Nothing happened.

“When you have millions of followers be very careful what you tweet.

“There were no shots, in fact nothing happened at all. So you stirred extra needless panic.”

Murs said he still receives abuse over his tweets, but insisted he stands by what he claims to have witnessed.
