Kate Hudson has revealed she doesn’t support a ban on guns as she is a “great believer in the constitution”.

The American actress said she stood by the right to bear arms during a speech at a conference.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Hudson spoke at a Business Chicks lunch in Sydney on Friday and addressed a 1,600 person audience on the issue.

She said: “'I'm a great believer in upholding the constitution. I believe in upholding our second constitution amendment,”

However, the Almost Famous actress did add that she would like to see stricter gun laws introduced.

Hudson put down her views to the “very interesting” political background of her actress mother Goldie Hawn and step-father Kurt Russell.

“My dad Kurt is a libertarian and mom is quite liberal, so I grew up with very different political views for an American household, which is actually kind of rare,” she commented.

Her remarks come after the Valentine’s Day massacre in Florida that left 17 dead.
