Helen Mirren has paid a heartfelt tribute to co-star Alan Rickman on This Morning.

The Oscar-winning actress, who appears alongside the late actor in his last film Eye in the Sky, has said that he had ‘so much great work’ left for the public to enjoy.

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on Monday morning, Mirren said that the actor was ‘really Alan’ in his final role.

“We did not want to lose Alan, he had so much great work left for us all to enjoy… which now we will never see,” Mirren said.

“But for this to be his last movie, the only pleasure I take in that is the fact that on screen it’s Alan.

“It’s not Alan in one of his brilliant character roles, where he could disappear into the role, here it really is Alan… his humanity, and his wit, and his warmth and his intelligence, so it’s wonderful to be able to say goodbye to him in a role like that.”

Rickman, who died of pancreatic cancer on January 14, plays in lieutenant in the Gavin Hood-directed film.

While Eye in the Sky is his last appearance on screen, he voices the Blue Caterpillar in Alice Through The Looking Glass, which will hit cinemas later this year.
