Harrison Ford has revealed he is “not really” looking forward to the new Han Solo Star Wars spin-off.

The actor – who played the space smuggler in the sci-fi franchise – said he finds the concept of the new film “weird”.

Ford made the admission at the Star Wars Celebration convention in Orlando, where he was asked whether he was looking forward to the film.

“Not really,” he replied. “I’ll be watching it as a fan but it will be weird, it will be a little weird.”

But, despite his apprehension, Ford said he was “delighted” with the choice of Alden Ehrenreich to play the lead.

“I’ve meet the fella who’s going to play the younger Han Solo,” he said. “Wonderful guy, very sweet, and a very good actor. So I’m delighted by the choice”.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film will also star Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Film bosses believed the former One Direction singer, 23, “had huge star potential”, according to The Sun, but that with his music career taking off it would have been hard to lock him in for the role.

“Harry was one of the early names in contention when the studio looked at Han Solo,” a source told the publication.

“On initial inquiries Harry had his music career laid out and it would have been almost impossible to lock him down for the job.”

The film is slated for release in 2018.
